Researching News and Current Affairs Programmes on a Radio Network |
Background The news and current affairs output from a radio network were being reviewed, and research was required as part of that review
Objectives To explore the audience and potential audience's views of the network's news output and to compare this with the range of other information, news and analysis available via other sources (including newspapers, magazines, TV and text services as well as other radio networks) Approach A series of group discussions was held, before which a number of pre-listening exercises were completed, in order to provoke more active reflection on the services used
Outcome Our findings have helped clarify the requirements (both in terms of content and delivery) of listeners and a new positioning for the network.
