Research Consultant

Midge has over 20 years experience in the market research industry. After gaining a BSc. in Psychology from Exeter University, he started his career in media research for an independent television contractor making extensive use of audience data and running programme development surveys. He then worked at senior levels within the financial research divisions of major agencies (NOP and Harris) and on the client side (The Mortgage Corporation), before becoming a research consultant around 10 years ago.

Midge has developed into an all-round researcher with a great deal of experience in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.  His quantitative experience includes ad hoc, continuous and desk research. More recently his work has focused on qualitative research, across a variety of methodologies and analysis approaches. He has been involved in many studies conducted by Counterpoint over the last 10 years. This has included researching amongst C2DE men on nutrition and cooking, amongst education professionals on Continuing Professional Development, with teenagers trying to get fit enough to apply to the Army, as well as High Net Worth individuals looking for investment vehicles.  Equally he has presented across a wide variety of audiences, including both community groups/ representatives, Government Working Parties, Ministers and CEOs.

Midge also works directly for a number of his own clients.  This list includes financial institutions (e.g. Liverpool Victoria, The Share Centre and HM Treasury), membership organisations (e.g. RAC and The Caravan Club) and charities (e.g. PDSA and RNIB).

He is a Full Member of the Market Research Society and has presented papers at various industry conferences. Midge’s main personal interests revolve around sport and travel.
